The new approach to synthetic training environments

2018-03-29

The world is becoming more complex, and technology has evolved allowing training experts to carry out interoperable joint simulation at multiple levels. Whether conducted between different locations, different simulators or with allies, a consistent challenge is the development of immersive, accurate and correlated synthetic training environments (STE).

Given the budget pressures military organizations are facing and how time intensive traditional terrain database development is, governments can no longer afford to rebuild synthetic environments from scratch. Depending on training requirements, a new approach is to use existing modular COTS terrains that are fully interoperable, easy to expand and can be used on all simulation platforms. To meet this new demand, Simthetiq offers platform agnostic synthetic terrains and 3D entities. As a recent example, Simthetiq delivered a modular and customized version of one of their library terrains in OpenFlight, VBS, and Unity with VR and serious game compatibility for use by the German Armed Forces. This will provide the customer with a longer life-cycle STE and the flexibility required. Want to learn more about Simthetiq interoperable content and VR capabilities? Contact us
